DIRIGENT

Johannes Kalitzke.

"Différences" – a seemingly simple title with which Luciano Berio entitled a work at the end of the 1950s. And yet it contains the quintessence of statement, reference and ultimately insight. This phenomenon is demonstrated in the most diverse ways this evening: If Berio uses a tape as a contrasting foil to the live-playing ensemble, in Johannes Maria Staud's "Esquisse retouchée (Incipit 2)" it is his own earlier work "Incipit", in the case of Brian Ferneyhough's "Prometheus" it is the shadowy, alternative background of strict systems of order, and in Gérard Pesson's work the reference to Emily Dickinson's poem "Apparently with no surprise" combined with the allusion to the baroque stile concitato.
However, the evening will open with a world premiere of "Alu Match" by the young Austrian composer Jakob Gruchmann, who recently won a 3rd prize at the Tokyo Toru Takemitsu Competition. Congratulations!
