œnm . œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik

A trio of harp, percussion and double bass is certainly one of the most unusual but also most appealing chamber music formations. In our studio concert – in addition to Sarah Nemtsovs “À deux” for harp solo – works for this instrumentation will be heard, which bring together the most diverse epochs and musical worlds of expression. Original compositions are the trios by Periklis Liakakis, who wrote “spiral#continuum” on behalf of the œnm, and Sofia Gubaidulinas “Cinq études”, who in this work from the mid-sixties shows herself unimpressed by constricting cultural-political restrictions. With “Eine Art Chansons” Friedrich Cerha wanted – as he himself said – to leave the sacrificed realms of ‘great art’ behind for once, to move on the dangerous terrain of ‘cabaret’, in order to “while maintaining the musical claim to quality – in part playfully – exaggerate modes of behavior and reaction, to exaggerate them into the absurd, or even to directly cite the eerily banal in reality.” Several parts from this collection were arranged for the trio, as well as excerpts from John Dowland’s melancholy-soaked last work, “A Pilgrimes Solace,” thus bridging the gap to the Elizabethan age.
