Nora Skuta

Nora Skuta is a graduate of the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she studied with Daniela Varínska. She subsequently perfected her skills at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and with Zoltán Kocsis, Rudolf Kehrer, Lazar Berman and Eugen Indjic.

She is currently one of the most renowned Slovak pianists. She is particularly committed to contemporary music, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She has premiered a large number of works and has performed at almost all the relevant festivals in Central Europe. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the Košice Philharmonic Orchestra, the Žilina State Chamber Orchestra, the Bratislava Soloists and the Cappella Istropolitana. She is also a co-founder of the Opera Aperta Ensemble and performs with Miki Skuta as a piano duo, with the Veni Ensemble in Bratislava and since 2009 with the œnm.

Nora Skuta’s extensive repertoire includes works by Sofia Gubaidulina, John Cage, Salvatore Sciarrino, György Kurtág, Steve Reich, Johannes Kalitzke and Michael Gielen. From her extensive discography, her solo CD “Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano” by John Cage stands out, which was also voted into the book of “1001 classical records”.
