Theodor Burkali

Theodor Burkali received his musical education at the Györ Conservatory, the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest (Béla Kovács), the Salzburg Mozarteum (Emil Rieder) and at various master classes (Sabine Meyer, Michel Portal, Francois Benda) and completed all his artist diplomas as well as his doctorate with distinction.

As a clarinettist and composer, he has performed at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Vienna Konzerthaus, Queens Hall Edinburgh, the Salzburg Grosses Festspielhaus and the New York Symphony Space, among others. Concerts, radio and television productions have taken him to the USA, Asia and Africa. He has also won prizes at numerous competitions (including Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest, Young Artist Competition Belgium, Yamaha Competition Vienna). He received the Theodor Körner Prize for his composition “ClariNova”, was awarded a prize at the Franz-Josef Reinl Composition Competition (Vienna) and was awarded the “Jahresstipendium für Musik” (Salzburg) as well as the composition grant of the Austrian Federal Ministry (2010). His orchestral works are performed by renowned orchestras.
He is also a permanent member of the œnm . oesterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik.
