Zoltán Mácsai

Zóltan Mácsai was born in 1985 in Berettyóújfalu/Hungary. He studied in Budapest with Pálma Szilágyi and later in Berlin with Marie-Luise Neunecker. He has won prizes at several international competitions (Prague Spring, Aeulos Competition in Düsseldorf, Markneukirchen Instrumental Competition) and is a regular soloist at important international festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Salzburg Mozart Week.

As a soloist he has already performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under the direction of Christian Thielemann, Ivor Bolton and Michael Gielen. As solo hornist, he has played with numerous orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic and the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin. From 2008 to 2016 he was principal horn of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, and since 2016 he has held the same position with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
