“Shaken, not stirred” is what James Bond demands of his cocktail, which consists of three parts gin, one part vodka and half a part Lillet. But what on earth do James Bond and his drink have to do with new music? In the case of our studio concert, three very different musical ingredients make for a very stimulating program. Timo-Juhani Kyllönen is a Finnish accordionist, composer and conductor who follows a polystylistic approach in his Trio op. 9 and also effectively blends the colors of strings and accordion. Margareta Ferek-Petric enters the sphere of instrumental theater in “Seven lovely sins” and designs a kind of sounding sequence of scenes, in which – in parts not entirely boy-free – sushi, men, harmony, wine, Charles Bukowski, orgasm and freedom are the topics. (If you want to get an impression, you can watch a video made during the forced pause caused by the pandemic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxuFyJVcbbg). Ernst Krenek’s Seventh String Quartet, a masterful work comprising five concise movements and written in freely handled 12-tone technique, seems much more abstract.
