œnm . œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik

We are the
oenm

From a happy constellation – the reunion of composers actively making music themselves, and instrumentalists, interested in contemporary music – a small group was formed in Salzburg in 1975. Over the years and after several hundreds of world premieres the group has developed into a medium sized ensemble of soloists. The initial wishes of the founders, have become a program that is both, constant and changeable: the development, performance and communication of contemporary music, with a focus on the city and province of Salzburg, but also on international stages.

Since 1997, the œnm has placed its artistic emphasis on the collaboration with Johannes Kalitzke as Principal Guest Conductor. The longstanding connection with other composers and conductors such as Aureliano Cattaneo, Tito Ceccherini, Pascal Dusapin, Titus Engel, Margareta Ferek-Petrik, Beat Furrer, Erin Gee, Sara Glojnarić, Georg Friedrich Haas, Toshio Hosokawa, Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin, Vasilikí Krimitzá, Helmut Lachenmann, Andor Losonczy, Hossam Mahmoud, Elena Mendoza, Sarah Nemtsov, Franck Ollu, Arvo Pärt, Enno Poppe, Steve Reich, Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Rundel, Peter Ruzicka, Oswald Sallaberger, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Salvatore Sciarrino or Mathias Spahlinger have had a decisive influence on the ensemble.

The œnm has been a regular guest at the Festivals of Salzburg and Bregenz, wien modern, the Festival Dialogues of the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Salzburg Easter Festival or Klangspuren Schwaz, but also at the Dresden Days of Contemporary Music, the Festival Ultraschall Berlin, the Munich Biennale, the Weimar Art Festival, the Elbe Philharmonic and the Warsaw Autumn.

Since 2011 the œnm offers so-called ″studio concerts” in the intimate setting of the Salzburg Künstlerhaus, to establish close and direct contact with the audience. For this particular format the ensemble received the Bank Austria Art Prize for Music Education in 2012. Video and Audio recordings with the œnm have been published by NEOS, KAIROS, cpo, Deutsche Grammophon and ORF.
