David Fliri studied horn performance at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar. He has played in various orchestras, including the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Erl Festival Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Gustav Mahler Academy, and the Camerata Salzburg. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Germany and abroad, playing both the historical natural horn and the modern horn in works by Telemann, Mozart, Strauss, and Smyth. His concert activities have taken him to almost all European countries, as well as to Asia, Africa, and America. Since 2022, he has been a member of the oenm (Austrian Ensemble for New Music) and a founding member of Ensemble Desiderio, an international chamber music ensemble with a broad repertoire. In addition to his intensive involvement with new music, he is also engaged in playing historical horns and historically informed performance practice, where he plays with the Salzburger Hofmusik, il pomo d’oro and Baruccoder, Das Neue Orchester Köln and the Neue Hofkapelle Graz, among others.
He also collaborated with Prof. Seraphinoff in the USA to produce a replica of a Bohemian horn from 1760. His work is documented on CDs released by Deutsche Grammophon, CPO, audite, brilliant classics, and others. In December 2021, he released a CD with Wolfgang Brunner and others featuring virtuoso works for natural horn by Louis François Dauprat, which received international acclaim. In addition to his concert activities, he has been teaching since 2013 and passing on his passion for his instrument.
