Josef Steinböck

Josef Steinböck studied bass tuba with Nikolaus Schafferer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, music education/IME with the main subjects piano, trombone, voice and composition and jazz with Prof. Dr. Erich Kleinschuster at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna. Diploma examination with unanimous distinction and appreciation award of the Federal Minister.

Josef Steinböck is tuba player of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the œnm . œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik. For a long time he was tuba player of the Klangforum Wien.

As a music teacher, he works as a professor for tuba and brass chamber music at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich and also as a teacher for these subjects at the Musikum Salzburg Stadt. He is a juror at renowned national and international competitions, such as the International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen or the Jan Koetsier Competition Munich, and founder and artistic director of the well-known master class “Bläserurlaub Bad Goisern” (www.blaeserurlaub.at), which grew to become the largest brass course in Europe. He is also active internationally as an orchestral and ensemble musician as well as a soloist and lecturer.
