The inner structure of sound and its transfer to composed music is one approach of spectral music, which thus creates incomparable listening experiences. Sensual perception is also at the center of Gérard Grisey’s “Périodes” (1974), part of his masterful “Espaces Acoustiques,” which he makes emerge from a dissected trombone sound. Fascinated by the “deep sounds and numerous percussive possibilities of a double bass with its explicit physicality,” Rebecca Saunders wrote “Fury II” (“Wild”) for solo bass and five instruments. The winner of the prestigious Erste Bank Composition Prize 2022, Sara Glojnarić, incorporates socio-political observations into her music as well as a contemporary view of art without demarcation from any categorizations. With the new work by Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin, this concert spans 50 years of musical creation!
